Did you vote last season for Leona Lewis or the season before that, and charged a crazy amount of money by the phone company for premium rate calls? Around £900,000-worth of calls for the December 2005 x factor final and two episodes in late 2006, were found to have been received too late to count. The aggressive corporate accounting firm hired by ITV, Deloitte, found the accounting inaccuracies of votes in their costly report.
ITV said it plans to reimburse £900,000 to viewers who watched and voted by phone the x factor finals of 2005. A portion of the returned money will come from Fremantle, Talkback and Syco. (what about for the 2 episodes in late 2006?)
Not only did independent producers of the x factor benefit from the phone in scandal, but Fremantle, Talkback Thames and Syco were given a share of the revenue stream created by votes on The X Factor.
Because they knowingly benefited from the accounting errors, and then were caught, the independent producers behind The X Factor are to pay back the money they earned from the premium-rate phone-in scandal, and have reportedly lost their jobs. They are not the only ones to lose their jobs as it was announced by MediaGuardian.co.uk, that board members responsible, and who recieved bonuses for the scams profits, will also suffer losing jobs at ITV, for this major phone in scam of stealing money from the viewers.
ITV will return not only the money they profited, but the actual cost to the callers. The ITV rep, could not comment on others involved returning an honest amount, and not a mathematical shafting of the people who phoned in their votes.
ITV has refused to comment on whether any of its staff were given bonuses if premium-rate revenue increased.
What I want to know, is who is joining SiSi CeCE behind bars?
